In Spring of 2019, we lost Gavin’s father to spinal cancer. He was able to pass in the comfort of my sister-in-laws home and his attending doctor was an extraordinary woman who not only works as a doctor all day, making house calls, she is also a mom and helps direct a local children’s facility in Guyana. Ruimveldt Children’s Center of Guyana currently has 70 children, all in need. These are children who are deeply impoverished. These are the kids at the margins who are often left behind, and with the pandemic, their needs have become critical and the Center is eager to get the kids the tools they need so that they can continue their education. The Center provides much needed resources for these children; from a place for kids to go and be safe so the parents can work, a place where they often will receive their only meal for the day, and before the pandemic, a place they would go after school. The Center is now trying to source computers, better internet & supplies to help the kids attend virtual school from the center.
