Understanding the Physical & Energetic Body

Within yogic philosophy is the premise that we are made up of 3 bodies; the Physical, Astral and Causal or the Physical & Energetic Body. Within these 3 bodies are 5 sheaths also referred to as koshas. This theory spans into many other areas, as well, such as Reiki, Pranic Healing, Qigong, Acupuncture and so on.

So let’s take a little deeper look at the different bodies:

Physical Body

  • Our physical body (annamaya kosha): dna, cells, tissues, nerves, organs, body system

Astral Body

  • energetic or magnetic body (pranamaya kosha): breath, chakras (energy system), vital energy
  • the mind body (manomaya kosha): emotions
  • wisdom body (vijnanamaya kosha): inner conscious, intuition, intellect

The Causal Body

  • bliss body (anandamaya kosha): connection to the Higher Self; where joy, love peace are experienced. This is the sheath we often feel most disconnect to and is the only kosha that connects us to the Causal Body, the other 4 koshas are connected to the physical or astral bodies.

Often, we look to the physical body and maybe toward the manomaya kosha (mental/emotional; such as anxiety & depression) when we are experiencing injury or ailments. However, when we address the Physical & Energetic Body as a whole, we are able to experience our greatest healing and sense of fulfillment, joy and bliss. In approaching our wellness with a full and integrated approach in conjunction with the regular care of our physicians we may begin to experience a deep sense of healing and wellness.

Energetic Healing is not a cure. It is, however, a tool you can use to assist in healing yourself. When we move stagnant energy, it can cause an ease in energetic flow allowing the root cause of the problem to surface. And when the root cause surfaces, we can address that directly; freeing ourselves completely rather than superfiscially.
